Jim founded BCD in 1994 and served as Partner until his retirement in December 2016. He had 50 years of experience in new business formation, organizational design, strategic planning, technology innovation, business operations, and law. From 1994 to 2009, he was the Founder/Executive Director of the Environmental Business Cluster (EBC), located in San Jose, California and the first environmental business incubator in the U.S. The EBC specialized in commercialization of clean and renewable energy technology, and was awarded the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA) Incubator of the Year Award in 2008. Jim was also the Co-Founder and initial Executive Director of the Software Business Cluster, the first software incubator in California and winner of the NBIA Incubator of the Year Award in 2000.
Jim’s international incubation experience includes China, Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, Nigeria, and Uganda. Jim also served as a Principal in Panasonic Ventures, a $100 million dollar investment fund. He was on the Board of Directors of NBIA for six years, spending the last year as Chair. In addition, Jim worked for Digital Equipment Corporation, the U.S. Supreme Court, and was a trial attorney.
